Lake Merced Golf Club Customs & Traditions
In order to enjoy your visit please observe the following Club policies:
Cell Phone and Media Devices
Cell phones are strictly prohibited on the golf course, practice areas, and inside the clubhouse. Cell phones may be used discretely in the breezeways outside of the clubhouse and in the parking lot only.
Lake Merced Golf Club wishes to provide its members and their guests a tasteful experience in keeping with the traditions of golf and the Club’s history. In this spirit of respect, we request your discretion, good judgment, and cooperation by wearing appropriate “club attire” when visiting our Club.
In general, all clothing worn anywhere on Club property must be clean, in good repair, and free of objectionable or inappropriate markings. Hats, when worn, should be worn in the proper (bill-forward) manner.
Shoes with cleats of any kind are not permitted on the upper level at any time. Men should remove their hats when on the upper level; women may wear sport hats until 5:00pm.
Club Dinner Attire
Club dinner attire is requested for evening dining, except on Wednesday evenings, when more casual clothing is also acceptable.
* For special events, other dress requirements may be included in the invitation.
Gentlemen: Full-length traditional slacks (no denim, baggy, or sport pants) and dress shirt (with or without collar) are requested; neckties are optional. Hats are not permitted on the upper floor. Jackets are suggested after 5:00pm on Sunday evenings.
Ladies: Dresses, pantsuits, as well as combinations of a skirt or dressy slacks with a blouse, sweater, or jacket. No sport hats after 5:00pm.
Due to our coastal proximity, we recommend that our visitors bring layered clothing options as weather conditions can change quickly.
Golf: We prefer golf shoes with “soft” cleats although occasional golfers may wear sneakers or tennis shoes that will not mar our golf course greens. Metal “spiked” cleats are not permitted at any time.
On the golf course and practice areas, we request you refrain from wearing denim (blue jeans), short shorts, baggy pants, cut-offs; bare midriffs, halter or tank tops. Men are requested to wear sleeved golf shirts with traditional collars, turtle necks, or crew necks. Shirts and blouses are to be worn tucked in, unless designed to be worn otherwise.
Tennis: All clothing should reflect tennis traditions, be in good repair, and free of inappropriate or offensive markings. Tennis shoes that will not cause damage or marring of court surfaces must be worn; no street or cleated shoes are permitted. Slacks, tennis shorts, or tennis skirts are permitted. Sleeved sport shirts with collar, turtleneck, mock turtleneck, or crew neck, should be worn tucked-in, unless designed to be worn otherwise. Appropriate tennis warm-up and sweat suits are permitted.
